Sweden 2014

Day 8

8th day - big car show at Rattvik. City is known for the longest pier in Scandinavia - 625m. Water in the lake was extremely clear.
While searching for a place to sleep we visited Camping Framby Udde.

Day 9

9th day was a trip to Uppsala. Starting with Gamla Uppsala museum. It’s a place that was known since 3rd century onwards for being a cultural, religious and economic centre. Early records show that Gamla Uppsala was the residence of Swedish kings of the legendary Yngling dynasty. The area is also rich in archaeological remains.

As you can imagine, later on we went straight to Uppsala city. We visited Uppsala Cathedral (from late 13th century) and Gastavianum Museum that is situated in the oldest standing building of Uppsala University (built between 1622 and 1625). The University was huge and very interesting. We also took a stroll around the city centre.

After Uppsala we went to spend the night at Riddersholm Camping.

Day 10

Day 10 was all about Stockholm. Absolutely stunning city. If you’re visiting Sweden, then you shouldn’t miss it, it’s really worth seeing from the ground and from water (I enjoyed view from the boat very much). You should also consider visiting Vasa Museum. Vasa is a Swedish ship, built between 1626 and 1628, intended to be used during war with Poland. It sunk on it’s maiden voyage, shortly after making it out of the port, due to construction errors. It was rediscovered in 1956 and salvaged with many parts that were scattered on the sea floor. The whole ship is now housed inside a building and it’s really impressive. It’s big and stunningly decorated.

And here are some shots from the city itself.

Day 11, 12

On day 11 we travelled to Gamla Linkoping.

Gamla Linkoping is a preserved part of the city with traditional buildings and their interior. It serves as an open-air museum. Lovely place to visit. They even do some recreations of scenes from the old days.

Day 12 was pure R&R on Sandvik Camping. :)

Day 13

Almost at the end. :) Day 13 we visited island Olandia. It’s connected to the mainland with a 6-kilometre (3.7 mi) long Öland Bridge. The whole Island is very flat with highest point at 58 m a.s.l. Biggest city on the island is Borgholm (seen on the last 4 photos) with around 3 000 inhabitants. There are a lot of windmills on the island and some stone circles and formation.

On our last day we visited Ales Stenar, sometimes called the Swedish Stonehenge. It is a stone ship, oval in outline, with the stones at each end markedly larger than the rest. It is 67 m (220 ft) long formed by 59 large boulders, weighing up to 1.8 tonnes each. There is no clear indication on when it was created but the most likely period is around 1400 years ago.

Last day, 14, was just about driving back home.
