Sweden 2014-1

Sweden 2014

Back in 2014 I took my newly bought car on it's first trip abroad. ;) Destination - Sweden! As I love whole Scandinavian region, and being for the first time in Norway in 2010, Sweden was definitely on the go-visit list.

Day 1

The route to adventure went through Rostock, Germany, where we boarded overnight ferry to Malmö.

Day 2

First day in the land of Vikings started very early in the morning, with sightseeing by walking around Malmö. Our first stop was the famous Turning Torso building (the tallest building in Scandinavia) and it's vicinity. The city is very picturesque and I also enjoyed that it was pretty empty at first due to early hour. There are a lot of different statues around city center that are very much worth seeing.

Because we started sightseeing so early in the morning, there was still time to find a place for the night and visit huge ZOO called Skanes Djurpark . I finally had a chance to see moose, as on my trip to Norway I didn't have the chance, they hid themselves very well. :) Shots didn't go well so only 4 from the park.

Our first night was at Ullstorps stuguthyrning camping with 600SEK for a night. This place is extremely quiet and peaceful. It's also very close to Skanes Djurpark ZOO and we even got discount for the ZOO just for staying there.

Day 3

On our third day we travelled to Alingsås and stayed in Lygnareds Camping (350SEK/night), this time not a cabin but a room. We had a lazy evening, swim in the nearby lake (water was extremely clean and extremely cold!), play cards, just the usual stuff. We rested well before our trip to Göteborg the next day.

Day 4

Göteborg welcomed us with heat and clean sky and a small welcome seagull committee. We started with city's port. I wouldn't be myself if I didn't photograph birds and ships.

After this we went Maritiman museum. Visiting the ships inside the museum took us few hours but it was definitely worth it. I took a lot of photos and selecting only few was a struggle!

The most interesting to see was Swedish submarine Nordkaparen from 1962.
Later we went to see more city centre, district called Haga was particularly eye-catching.
When you drive into Göteborg with your own car you will be directed to free parking spaces with electronic boards, very neat. We eventually stayed in Rosenlund 2 parking with 15SEK/1hour or 80SEK/12hours fee.

Day 5

Fifth day started with a trip to Lacko Castle, nice building but not very much to see when it comes to interior. Although placed in a lovely location.
In the afternoon we went to see little town called Marstrand with 17th century fortress. It's definitely worth visiting. We haven't been inside the fortress due to lack of time, but from it's vicinity there's a stunning view.

On our way back from Marstrand we stopped on a parking where we saw a lot of old cars. "Raggare" is what you want to google if you want to read about Swedes love for vintage American cars.

Day 6

Sixth day started with Haverud Aqueduct in Dalsland area, place where road, railway and waterway meet.
We stopped at Ekenas, small village, very peaceful place. We stayed for the night at Ransaten Camping, nice place, 425SEK for a night.

Day 7

Our 7th day started with Fryken Lake, then we went to Ekharad.
At the end of the day we spent the night at the greatest place during our whole visit - Camping Gronklitt Stugby Bjornen. It's not on a main track so it's not so obvious to find, but that's definitely worth it. 625SEK for a night at very high standard and very close to nature.
